By: E&P Staff Clarity Media Group President Ryan McKibben announced that John P. Wilcox will become publisher of the San Francisco Examiner effective in August.
Wilcox is president, publisher, and CEO of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Prior to that, he was publisher of the Ventura County Star. E.W. Scripps owns both papers.
"I am excited to be joining one of the nation's most progressive newspapers in my home state of California," Wilcox said in a statement. "The Examiner is in the early stages of creating newspapers to fit the 21st Century. I look forward to working with the staff to continue to grow and advance the newspaper in the community."
In addition to the Examiner and Independent newspapers, Wilcox will also manage the paper's other assets, including the Anschutz Printing Co. in San Francisco.
The current Examiner Publisher, P. Scott McKibben, has accepted a job as president and COO of Western Color Print, a provider of Sunday color comics and related advertising to newspapers.
"It was a difficult decision for me to leave the Examiner, but I have a great opportunity to move to Denver and head up a renowned national organization and to be closer to several of my family members as well," McKibben said in a statement.
