The Journal Register Co. of Trenton, N.J., has expanded its
Greater Philadelphia cluster with the purchase of the Montgomery
Newspaper Group from Metroweek Corp.
Montgomery, 24 community papers and lifestyle magazines with a
non-daily distribution of about 340,000 in suburban Philadelphia,
reported about $18 million in revenue in fiscal year 2000.
Metroweek Corp. is privately held, and terms of the deal were not
disclosed.
After the acquisition, Journal Register has a combined daily
circulation of about 173,000 and non-daily distribution of about
1.1 million in Greater Philadelphia.
The company said it expects the acquisition to begin contributing
to earnings in 2002.
