Journal Register Extends Atex System Across All Connecticut Papers

By: E&P Staff Journal Register Co. is extending its Atex Content Management solution to support all its publications in Connecticut. Already used at the New Haven Register and Shoreline weeklies, the solution is being rolled out geographically to four more JRC dailies and 40-plus non-dailies.

Utilizing Adobe InDesign and InCopy, the systems will be hosted at JRC's managed services data center in New Haven. All remote users access the system via the Atex browser-based Web editing client or through Citrix terminal services.

The fast-track implementation begun in June is on track for completion this month. Atex Content Management will be used by more than 250 editorial staffers at JRC's five dailies and more than 60 non-dailies in Connecticut, including the Spanish-language Registro.

"This approach makes it easier for our newspapers to share content, and it reduces the duplicated costs and efforts that are commonplace with separate, disparate systems at individual newspaper sites," JRC Senior Vice President, Technology, Al Mailman said in a statement.

Deployment at more than six sites producing more than 40 publications in three months "illustrates the speed and economy of working in a centralized environment and the flexibility and extensibility of the Atex system," Atex Chief Integration Officer Peter Marsh said. Standardizing the "application and deployment methodology allows us to effectively utilize Journal Register Company staff resources across different publications, which helps to streamline the training and support functions while keeping costs under control," he added.
