By: E&P Staff The Journal Register Co. on Thursday said it would take a close look at entering the Philadelphia newspaper market in the wake of the McClatchy/Knight Ridder deal--if the Daily News in that city closes down.
Journal Register now owns 27 dailies in small and medium-sized markets.
At the Bank of America Media, Telecommunications and Entertainment Conference, CEO Robert Jelenic said his company has not yet made any bids. But the company, based in Trenton, New Jersey, is keeping close watch on the Philadelphia market.
"We've got plans depending on what happens, if they close the Daily News, or close (some of their) plants. We've got plans for that," Jelenic said, as quoted by Reuters.
