Journalism Exhibition “Investigating Power” Launches

Washington, D.C., – April 25, 2012 – Investigating Power launches today, an online, multimedia presentation honoring key American journalists who have  documented critical moments of modern American history with bravery, grit and perseverance. Visit the site at www.investigatingpower.org.

Investigating Power is tribute to independent journalism and a testament to the vital role of truth in a healthy democracy. It offers an extensive high-resolution video library of interviews with 23 men and women who have produced fearless journalism that exposes abuses of power throughout society. The group includes Mike Wallace, Bob Woodward, Dana Priest, Moses Newson, Christiane Amanpour and Carl Bernstein. Each gives observations on their careers and the ongoing importance of truth telling.

“At this critical juncture in the history of American journalism, as the news media and the nature and extent of original reporting itself undergo a very difficult transformation, we must reflect on the inherent, incalculable value of original, independent reporting in our nation and in the world,” said site creator Charles Lewis.

Investigating Power provides career timelines of these remarkable reporters and editors and short documentaries about significant “truth to power” moments in contemporary U.S. history, including still photos and archival footage.  Lewis is a former 60 Minutes producer and founder of the Center for Public Integrity and the Investigative Reporting Workshop at the American University School of Communication.
