By: E&P Staff "JumpStart" cartoonist Robb Armstrong of United Media is slated to receive an outstanding-achievement award tonight at an East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC) dinner, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Also, several other syndicated cartoonists are among the nominees for the ECBACC's new "Glyph Awards" that will be announced at the dinner, held in Philadelphia's African American Museum.
Finalists in the "best comic strip" category include Darrin Bell ("Candorville"/Washington Post Writers Group), Aaron McGruder (on-sabbatical "The Boondocks"/Universal Press Syndicate), Jerry Craft ("Mama's Boyz"/King Features Weekly Service), and Keith Knight ("The K Chronicles" and "(th)ink"/self-syndication).
McGruder also received nominations in the "best writer" and "best male character" categories (the latter for his "Boondocks" star, Huey Freeman).
Armstrong and Tim Jackson, who does editorial cartoons for the Chicago Defender and other newspapers, are among the scheduled speakers at the May 19-20 ECBACC gathering.
