'Jump Start' Cartoonist to Speak at Troubled School

Posted
By: E&P Staff "Jump Start" cartoonist Robb Armstrong will speak Thursday at Winslow Township High School in Camden County, N.J.

Last month, Winslow was rattled by allegations that four students had plotted a Columbine-like shooting at the school -- which has a number of students who have been jailed. Armstrong will speak the same day the four suspects have a court date in Canden.

The Winslow auditorium can only hold about 25% of the school's 1,700 students. So the gym will be retrofitted with floor seating to allow all students to hear Armstrong, who's well-known for his motivational speeches to kids in crisis and other audiences.

Armstrong, one of a small number of syndicated African-American cartoonists, does "Jump Start" for about 400 newspapers via United Media. The comic features a middle-class African-American family.
