'Kane County Chronicle' Dropping Sunday, Monday Editions and Going Tab

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Kane County Chronicle, the Shaw Newspapers daily in the far Chicago suburb of Geneva, Ill., is combining its Saturday and Sunday print editions into a single paper delivered Saturday, and is discontinuing Monday print publication, its publisher told readers Tuesday.

In addition, Don T. Bricker, publisher of the Chronicle News Group, said the Chronicle is switching to a compact, tabloid format.

The changes will be launched March 17.

The new "Weekend" edition will "include everything you've come to expect from your Saturday and Sunday papers and then some." Bricker said "the economic realities we face" forced the elimination of the Monday print paper.

"We cannot avoid the impact of the nationwide economic crisis and the steep loss of advertising revenue affecting every newspaper," he wrote. The Chronicle's Web site will include breaking news Sundays and Mondays, he added.

"We've determined that our future is to be your LOCAL newspaper," Bricker wrote with the word local in all caps. "Going forward, we will place nearly all our emphasis and resources on providing news and information specific to the Tri-Cities and western Kane County. The cornerstone of every decision going forward will be driven by a new mantra -- LOCAL, LOCAL, LOCAL."
