By: E&P Staff Dazhong Daily Newspaper Group has placed an order for a two-section KBA Commander press line to print the 70-year-old Dazhong Daily, a 400,000-circulation newspaper published in Jinan, capital of Shandong.

The group's 10 other dailies include the 1.05-million-circulation Qilu Evening News and 900,000-circulation Peninsula City. It also publishes five magazines.

Dazhong President Xu Yan Gang cited "the performance, flexibility and print quality delivered by the Commander press line at the Zhejiang Daily in Hangzhou" among reasons for the press selection.

The KBA Commander with a 43-inch cylinder circumference will be installed early next year in Jinan. The group has a second printing plant, one of the biggest in northern China, in Qingdao.

With a maximum rated output of 170,000 full-color, 32-page copies per hour, the press line will handle web widths of 67.75 inches, 61.5 inches and 56.7 inches to accommodate a wide range of products. It will comprise four Pastomat reelstands, four blanket-to-blanket towers, four turner bars, two folder superstructures with two formers apiece, and two KF 5 jaw folders.

Automated features include color and cut-off register control, cylinder washing, ink pumping, a RIP interface and Print software for job scheduling and press presetting. The press will be controlled from four EAE consoles. New Schur mailroom technology also will be installed.
