By: E&P Staff Sudan's International Group Printing Press (IGPP), founded five years ago outside Khartoum, is now printing daily and weekly titles under contract on its new, two-tower KBA Comet press, which the manufacturer describes the country's first of its kind.
Featuring automatic ink pumping, color-register controls and pneumatic fan-out compensation, the 75,000cph floor-mounted Comet has a 22.75in cut-off and a web width variable between 24.85 and 34.25 inches, with 30 inches the standard. Three Pastoline reelstands are embedded in a KBA Patras M reel-handling system.
The 2:3:3 KF 3B jaw folder's superstructure has a single former. Extras include gluing, perforating and quarterfolding. Console technology includes ink-key presetting and a RIP interface. PC-based remote maintenance is available.
"Coupled with our high-powered prepress and mailroom technology, the start-up of the KBA Comet has substantially enhanced both our output and our production flexibility," Yassir Hamad Madani, who co-founded IGPP with two partners, said in a statement. He added that customers are "delighted" and that the press offers the means to meet future market demand. "In fact, we are already contemplating an extension," Madani said.
