By: E&P Staff As summer ended, Miami-based Quipp Systems reported orders from 13 North American newspaper printers for 45 stackers. Almost half will go to The Kansas City Star for its new production plant, which will install 13 500N and eight 500 CN models.
Other customers included: The Daily Progress (Charlottesville, Va.) (500W); Huntsville (Ala.) Times (two 501CWs, 500W); The Gazette (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and the Telegram & Gazette (Worcester, Mass.) (two 501N machines each ); The Yuma (Ariz.) Daily Sun, The Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press, and The News-Press (Fort Myers, Fla.) (one 500W each); Daytona Beach (Fla.) News Journal and the Lisbon, Ohio, Morning Journal (two 500Ws each); The Pantagraph (Bloomington, Ind.) (501N); The Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville) (four 501Ns); and Southwest Offset Printing in Gardena, Calif. (four 500Ns).
A major contract printer of national and international newspapers, Southwest Offset Printing also bought two of Quipp's Viper three-quarter bottomwrappers. Two more Vipers were sold to The Ottawa (Ontario) Citizen and another to The Sun News (Myrtle Beach, S.C.).
