By: The photo agency that represents Edward Keating, who took photographs of disgraced
New York Times reporter Jayson Blair that appeared in
Newsweek magazine this week, was actively pitching the photos to other media outlets Wednesday.
In an e-mail received by
E&P and apparently sent to other media outlets, Contact Press Images Inc. of New York said the Keating photos of Blair are a one-week domestic exclusive for
Newsweek. After that, they can be resold to other outlets, according to the e-mail.
Ironically, Keating himself left the
Times after editors accused him of staging a September 2002 news photo of a boy holding a toy gun. Keating spoke to
The Washington Post about the matter
in Wednesday's editions.Keating apparently knew Blair when he worked at the
Times, and Blair allowed the photographer to take candid shots of him at his home in Brooklyn on Friday.
In its e-mail pitch, Contact Press also offered for sale Keating's "personal photographs" of
Times Executive Editor Howell Raines, Managing Editor Gerald Boyd, and Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. from last year's Pulitzer Prize celebration in the
Times newsroom. Keating's photographs from Sept. 11, 2001, contributed to a Pulitzer for news photography.
