'Klamath Falls (Ore.) Herald and News' Gets New ME

By: (AP) Steve Miller, publisher of the Ellensburg Daily Record since August 2003, is moving to Oregon to become managing editor of the Klamath Falls Herald and News.

Miller, 49, starts his new job at the 17,500-circulation daily newspaper in southwestern Oregon on Feb. 6.

"It's been a very difficult decision for me," Miller said. "Ellensburg is a great community and the Daily Record staff can't be beat."

He said he missed the editorial side of the news business and was looking forward to getting back to the newsroom.

The move also allows Miller and his wife, Chris, to be closer to their children. Their daughter, Roxanne, lives in Portland, and their son, Will, is moving to the Portland area.

Miller came to the Daily Record from the Idaho State Journal in Pocatello, where he was managing editor. Before that he was editor at two newspapers in Nebraska.

The Daily Record, the Idaho State Journal and the Herald and News are all owned by Seattle-based Pioneer Newspapers.

At Klamath Falls, Miller will supervise a newsroom staff of 21. The paper recently made the switch from six-day afternoon publication to seven-day morning publication.

"We are thrilled and very privileged to have Steve join us," said Heidi Wright, publisher of the Herald and News. "What will be particularly good for Klamath Falls is Steve's knowledge and background in community journalism. It's my sense that Klamath Falls and Ellensburg are a lot alike and I think that will bode very well for us."
