Kodak Completes Plate Plant Expansion

Posted
By: E&P Staff Kodak has completed the 26,000-square-foot expansion of its digital plate-manufacturing plant in Columbus, Ga., creating a third production line.

The plant produces conventional and digital plates. Kodak said its investment of approximately $15 million allows it "to invest in the latest digital plate technologies and to further the development of next-generation plates."

Opened in 1990 by Sun Chemical to make Polychrome-branded plates, the Columbus facility underwent several improvements to boost quality and capacity. Kodak entered into a joint venture with Sun Chemical in 1998 to form Kodak Polychrome Graphics, and in 2005 that venture became a wholly owned Kodak subsidiary.

In addition to the Columbus, Kodak has plate production facilities in Colorado, England, Germany, Bulgaria, Japan and China.
