By: E&P staff Kodak Polychrome Graphics announced at the Ifra Expo this week in Amsterdam that it will begin shipping its first newspaper plate for violet platesetters early next year.
Among its diverse product range, KPG has been known for its thermal newspaper platesetters and Anitec thermal plates. Said CEO Jeff Jacobson: "We have been evaluating violet from early on, assessing not only what it can offer but what KPG can add that would set our product apart from our competitors."
The negative-working plate features yellow safelight handling, comparatively low chemistry consumption, and run lengths of up to 200,000 copies, according to KPG. Resolution is 2 to 98% at up to 175 lines per inch.
Made at KPG's plant in Osterode, Germany, the photopolymer VioletNews is in beta testing at European and North American newspapers. KPG announced initial availability in Europe, "closely followed by North America, Latin America, and Asia."
