Krier Expands With 4 Kan. Weeklies

By: E&P Staff Krier Publications has bought the four northern Kansas weeklies published by the Miller family, Dallas-based Rickenbacher Media, which represented the Millers in the transaction, announced Thursday.

The weeklies are the Smith County Pioneer, The Downs News, Cawker City Ledger and the Lebanon Times.

No terms were disclosed.

Krier Publications, chaired by Jack Krier, owns several other Kansas and Missouri papers, including the Lyons (Kan.) Daily News. Krier shareholder John Settle owns The Tiller & Toiler, a daily in Larned, Kan.

Darrel and Ruth Miller began their newspaper publishing career with the purchase of The Downs News in 1958. Darrel Miller will continue part-time as publisher of the Smith County Pioneer.
