By: Newspaper publishers McClatchy Co. and Tribune Co. said Thursday they would rename Knight Ridder/Tribune Information Services to McClatchy-Tribune Information Services, or MCT, following the completion of McClatchy's purchase of Knight Ridder Inc. this week.
McClatchy, which is based in Sacramento, Calif., will become Tribune's partner in the joint venture, which had previously been known as KRT.
MCT provides news stories, feature articles, photos, graphics, illustrations, caricatures, themed content packages and paginated products that are marketed through Tribune Media Services, a unit of Tribune, a Chicago-based media company.
McClatchy and Tribune said they see no changes in the way the service aggregates and distributes content to clients.
With its purchase of Knight Ridder, which closed on Tuesday, McClatchy became the second-largest publisher in the country in terms of circulation, behind Gannett. Tribune is the third-largest.
