By: E&P Staff Paul Krugman finished sixth and Thomas Friedman 16th in a "Global Public Intellectuals Poll" -- conducted by Prospect and Foreign Policy magazines -- that drew more than 20,000 votes.
Krugman and Friedman are both with The New York Times and New York Times News Service.
Also represented in the top-100 list were several people who write syndicated columns but are better known for their books or other endeavors.
They include Noam Chomsky (who finished first), Umberto Eco (second), Salman Rushdie (10th), Naomi Klein (11th), and Fernando Henrique Cardoso (43rd). All five do columns for the New York Times Syndicate.
NYTS also distributes articles from Prospect magazine, which is based in Great Britain.
