Posted
By: E&P Staff La Raza, the ImpreMedia-owned Spanish-language weekly in Chicago, is partnering with broadcast veteran Jose Lamas to produce a morning drive-time radio newscast.

"Buenos Dias, Chicago -- Noticias Al Dia de La Raza" ("Good Morning, Chicago. La Raza's News Today") kicked off Monday on WSBC, an AM station that brokers time for ethnic programming.

The newscast airs from 4:30 am through 7:00 am, Monday through Friday. It includes local, national and international news mainly provided by La Raza, with special live segments from Miami featuring journalist Rafael Orizondo. The newscast also includes analysis of immigration issues by immigration attorney Connie Lara. Her daily segment also includes live call-ins from listeners on immigration matters.

"Jose Lamas and I have had a professional relationship for more than 15 years," La Raza Publisher and CEO Robert J. Armband said in a statement. "I believe this morning drive-time news program will fill a huge void for news and information in Spanish in Chicago."

Lamas and La Raza said they will package advertising and promotional opportunities in both radio and print. Plans are also under way to stream the radio broadcast on La Raza On-line http://www.laraza.com thus affording the advertising community a powerful and unique media package.

Lamas is a Cuban political exile who first hosted and produced Spanish-language radio programs in 1966. He is a former general manager of WSNS-TV.

La Raza Newspaper is the largest Spanish language newspaper in Chicago with an audited free-distribution of 190,544 according to the most recent report of Certified Audit of Circulation.
