'LA Times' Ends National Edition

Posted
By: E&P Staff After giving its stripped-down national edition a reprieve earlier this year, The Los Angeles Times is now ending publication next week, The New York Times reported today.

Since March it has been only in a 24-page format with no paid advertising, and sent by fax to about 1500 in Washington and a few hundred in New York City. The paper says it will re-direct resources to its popular Web site, www.latimes.com.

The Tribune paper recently announced a cost-cutting program that eliminated 85 jobs in the newsroom and killed its Outdoors section, among other changes.
