Orange County Local News Network, a partnership between the Los Angeles Times and San Diego-based U.S. Local News Network has been shut down, four months after its launch.

U.S. Local News Network President Chris Jennewein in an e-mail to staff said the Orange County venture “has been forced to cease operations effective immediately.” No specific reason was given for the shutdown, which was first reported by Michael Volpe on the Website of the Orange County (Calif.) Business Journal.

The online-only news operations employed journalists to report breaking local news and write on sports and entertainment in the county. The site also posted content from the Los Angeles Times and other newspapers.

In its media blog, OC Weekly reported the Los Angeles Times offered little comment on the closure. Nancy Sullivan, the paper’s vice president of communications said in an e-mail to the Weekly’s Spencer Kornhaber on Monday evening: "OCLNN was a venture the Los Angeles Times Media Group undertook with USLNN in January. It has run its course as of today."
