By: E&P Staff The Los Angeles Times has announced that veteran journalist and political analyst Ron Brownstein will become the paper's National Affairs columnist, writing a weekly column for the op-Ed page as well as longer pieces for the Currents section and the paper's Web site.
"The Times will benefit immensely from having Ron Brownstein's authoritative voice on the op-ed page," said David Hiller, publisher and CEO of the Los Angeles Times, in a statement. "His mastery of both politics and policy, and his gift for taking the news and framing it in a broader context make him a natural columnist for the ages."
Brownstein has written five books, and a sixth, "The Second Civil War: How Extreme Partisanship Has Paralyzed Washington and Polarized America," is due out in the fall. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the 1996 and 2004 presidential campaigns.
