'LA Times' to Close Valley Plant

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Los Angeles Times yesterday said it will close its 22-year-old Valley plant in Chatsworth, moving production to more modern facilities and eliminating more than 100 jobs.

The transition, expected to be completed by spring, will not affect the paper's San Fernando Valley and Ventura County editions nor any product or services, according to an announcement carried on the paper's Web site.

The announcement quote Senior Vice President, operations, Mark Kurtich saying that the downtown Olympic and Orange County plants, together with the California Community Newspapers facility in Irwindale, "are fully capable of handling the current and future needs of Times readers and advertisers."

When the Chatsworth plant closes, approximately 110 positions are expected to be lost -- as many as possible through a voluntary separation package, according to the Times. After its closure, the quarter-million-square-foot plant on 26 acres is to be sold.
