By: E&P Staff Kate Aurthur, television editor of the Los Angeles Times, is leaving to join Web site The Daily Beast after three years on the job.
"I've enjoyed three great years with the L.A. Times, and it was a
personal decision to move on," Aurthur told E&P Online Tuesday. "I'm looking forward to the new challenges that a transition to Tina Brown's DailyBeast.com will give me."
Aurthur was hired by the Times in 2006 after spending the previous two years as a freelance culture writer. She also has written for Vanity Fair and New York magazine. She will be covering entertainment and culture for the Daily Beast under the direction of the site's West Coast bureau chief Gabe Doppelt.
The Daily Beast, named after the fictional newspaper featured in Evelyn Waugh's novel "Scoop," was launched last October and is helmed by former Vanity Fair and New Yorker editor Tina Brown. The site is mostly a news aggregator, but contains some original content, counting among its contributors writer Christopher Buckley and historian Sean Wilentz.
