Laid-Off 'L.A. Times' Journos, Photogs Marketing Themselves

By: mfitzgerald@editorandpublisher.com A group of former Los Angeles Times journalists including former Associate Editor Leo Wolinsky are marketing themselves on a Web site called The Journalism Shop.

"All members are former Los Angeles Times staffers offering a wide range of skills and interests, from investigative reporters to book reviewers, page designers to project managers," the site's opening page says. "If you are looking for help with a complete editorial project, e-mail us and we'll get you in touch with the right people."

The Journalism Shop joins Pro Photography Network, another venture set up by former Times staffers. The photographers offering their services on that site include Annie Wells, who won a Pulitzer Prize for spot news photography.

The Journalism Shop site was created by former reporter Scott Martelle and tech specialist Brett Levy, reported Kevin Roderick on the Web site LA Observed. The two dozen contributors include longtime music writer Richard Cromelin, health reporter Susan Brink and Washington, D.C., reporter Rick Schmitt.
