By: E&P Staff Lakeway Publishers has purchased the newspaper group of The CV Corp., effective Jan. 1. Terms of the deal, which include the Virginia newspapers The Central Virginian, The Goochland Courier, and the Herald-Progress, were not disclosed.
Cribb, Greene & Associates brokered the transaction.
"We are pleased that the board of the CV Corp. of Virginia chose Lakeway to carry on the rich traditions of community journalism in these three communities," R. Jack Fishman, Lakeway's president, said in a statement. "We stress for each of our newspapers to be independent in reporting the news and activities of their communities."
Cathy Collins, publisher of the three newspapers and board member of CV Corp., is retiring. William Trimble, the former president and CEO of CV, will serve as publisher of the Herald-Progress. Steve Weddle has been named publisher of the Central Virginian and the Goochland Courier. Deana Meredith will continue in her role as editor of the Central Virginian.
"This industry is in an era of rampant consolidation, and we're glad that, if the papers had to be sold, they were sold to a company that will continue to prioritze the community in community journalism," Meredith said in a statement.
Based in Morristown, Tenn., Lakeway publishes 24 newspapers and six magazines.
