Lancaster Newspapers Joins CommunitySportsDesk

Posted
By: E&P Staff Lancaster Newspapers has reached an agreement with CommunitySportsDesk to collect and publish community sports and recreation content for print and online. Lancaster's sports Web site will now operate as Lancaster Community Sports.

Lancaster Newspapers publishes the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era, an 84,000 circulation six-day daily, and the Sunday News, a 98,000 circulation weekly paper in Lancaster County, Pa.

"We have dozens and dozens of community sports leagues," said Online Sports Editor Keith Schweigert said in a statement. "Kids playing baseball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse. Teens swimming, skateboarding, playing softball. Adults in Legion baseball leagues, bowling leagues, billiard leagues, table tennis leagues. In the past, it?s been impossible to cover them all. But now we can."

Lancaster Newspapers is the latest addition to the CommunitySportsDesk network, which now has 27 affiliates in 10 states and was founded to provide deeper coverage of youth and recreation sports in local newspapers.

This story has been corrected. A previous version misstated the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era's circulation.
