By: E&P Staff Landmark Community Newspapers (LCNI) of Shelbyville, Ky. has purchased The Pageland Progressive-Journal in S.C. from Brian and Jane Hough. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The weekly newspaper goes back to 1910 as the Scout, which became The Pageland Journal. The Houghs started the Pageland Progressive in 1978, bought the Journal in 1981, and then merged the two papers.
?One of the reasons we are selling the paper to Landmark is because we know that they have the expertise, personnel, and resources to make the paper successful in the future,? said Brian Hough in a statement. ?They believe in local editorial autonomy and produce good newspapers. I think they will continue to improve on what Jane and I have built here.?
LCNI is a division of Landmark Communications, a privately held media company based in Norfolk, Va. LCNI publishes 54 paid newspapers in 13 states.
