Lapsed Registration Causes 'Wash. Post' E-mail Outage

Posted
By: (AP) The e-mail system for writers and editors at The Washington Post failed Thursday for hours because the newspaper did not renew its Internet address, the company said.

The newspaper's failure to heed warnings that its washpost.com address had expired led to the outage. The Post (Click for QuikCap) said in a statement that e-mail was disrupted for hours and that the Internet domain was immediately renewed.

The newspaper planned to publish a message to readers in Friday's editions explaining why their efforts to send e-mails to writers and editors were unsuccessful.

Its news Web site, www.washingtonpost.com, was not affected by the disruption.
