Large Spanish Daily Buys Wifag Presses

Posted
By: E&P Staff Godo group's La Vanguardia ordered two Wifag evolution 371 presses for its new printing center in Barcelona. The 220,000-circulation Catalan regional daily is Spain's fourth-largest newspaper.

Besides La Vanguardia, Godo will use the new presses to print other group titles, such as Mundo Deportivo. Both presses, which have a 22.75-inch cutoff and a 64.5-inch web width, are equipped with a double folder with each independent folder mechanism, allowing runs with simultaneous delivery of different products in straight and/or collect mode, completely independently.

The presses are equipped with a fully automatic system for each web for variable-format tabloid production, from the main format of 16.125 x 11.5 inches down to 13.75 x 11.5.

Each press section comprises five four-over-four towers and one position with two stacked units, each one-over-one (planned for extension to a full-color tower), eight autoturn turner-bar modules, eight autopaster reelstands (fully automatic from transfer of the roll to the autopasters), and a DFA 140 2:5:5 double jaw folder. Up to 80,000 copies per hour per delivery can be produced in straight mode.
