By: E&P Staff David McClain, president and publisher of the Las Cruces (N.M.) Sun-News, will be leaving his position to take a corporate role at a Colorado newspaper effective Sept. 1.

McClain will return to the Sterling (Colo.) Journal-Advocate, where he served as publisher before moving to Las Cruces in 2006. In addition to his duties as president and publisher of the Sun-News, McClain also served as group publisher for the Texas-New Mexico Newspaper Partnership's papers in New Mexico.

"We have appreciated McClain's leadership in Las Cruces," Ray Stafford, publisher of the El Paso Times and CEO of the Texas-New Mexico Newspapers Partnership, said in a statement. "David has an opportunity to return home and be near family, which has always been important to him ... I wish him luck and Godspeed."

During McClain's time as publisher, he introduced a number of new products and services in print and online to readers, including the paper's popular Healthy U and House to Home magazines.

"Our time in Las Cruces has been tremendously rewarding and enjoyable," McClain told the Sun-News. "The professional successes and personal satisfaction from working with a very excellent staff at the Sun-News was a wonderful experience."
