LAS VEGAS -Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas' authoritative newspaper of arts and culture, increases its distribution, debuts heavier and higher quality paper for its cover and expands its lead among local media using Facebook and Twitter.

Effective with the issue of May 5, a total of 75,000 copies of Las Vegas Weekly will be printed and distributed in the metropolitan area -- an immediate increase of 7,000 copies per issue. The updated distribution will be subject to the next audit conducted by the Circulation Verification Council.

The additional copies will be offered heavily on Las Vegas Boulevard, augmenting the publication's quantity that has long been in place off-Strip. With the recent increase, the number of local outlets carrying the free publication has increased to more than 1,800.

"Las Vegas Weekly is extraordinarily popular," said publisher Bruce Spotleson. "We've monitored its pickup rate ever since we began publishing, and it ranks with the best in America. It recently became obvious that reader demand was so high we needed to increase the number of copies available."

Beginning with the issue of May 19, the magazine's cover will be printed on 100-lb. glossy book stock, a substantial upgrade over the previous materials. Las Vegas Weekly's decision to upgrade its materials is a reflection on the publication's commitment to providing Las Vegas the latest news and entertainment in the best and most sophisticated format.

"Readers and advertisers alike expect a certain level of image and color quality, along with the tactile experience of premium paper," Spotleson said. "Going forward, it will be even easier to differentiate Weekly from other publications in the metro area."

"We know from multiple market research studies that Las Vegas Weekly reaches a very high-quality audience," added Spotleson. " With these improvements, there's no doubt that audience now will grow even larger."

Social media statistics show rapid growth for Las Vegas Weekly on both Facebook and Twitter. As of Wednesday, May 4, Las Vegas Weekly had 30,959 Facebook fans, nearly seven times more than any other weekly publication in the region. In addition, Las Vegas Weekly had 12,223 followers on Twitter - roughly 40 percent more than its nearest competitor.

The publication has long had a strong digital presence, as LasVegasWeekly.com is the largest arts and entertainment website in Nevada.
