By: Mark E. Laskowski has been named the publisher of the (Florence) Morning News and its sister weeklies Marion, Hemingway and Lake City, the newspaper announced.
Laskowski comes to Florence from northern Virginia, where he was the publisher of three daily newspapers, 10 weeklies and six Web sites also owned by Media General.
Laskowski replaces Michael J. Miller, who has been named vice president and publisher of the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal.
"I think Mark will be a superb leader for the Morning News as we go into 2007," Miller said. "There are many exciting things planned for the newspaper and its Web site in the coming months and Mark is just the person to see these plans through."
Laskowski has spent 32 years in newspapers, starting as a reporter before working in advertising, circulation and production. He had been a publisher in northern Virginia for seven years.
