The last of the old Sun Herald/Gulf Publishing building on Debuys Road in Gulfport, Mississippi, was torn down on May 19, 2025, leaving only the remains of the press standing. The building was built in 1970 after Hurricane Camille destroyed the paper’s offices in Downtown Gulfport. It was then known as The Daily Herald. The building was built to withstand hurricanes, and it passed that test many times, including Hurricane Katrina. The Sun Herald staff was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Community Service for their coverage of the storm, sharing the award with The New Orleans Times Picayune. The paper ceased press operations in 2018.
