By: E&P Staff Randy Harvey has been named sports editor of the Los Angeles Times. He succeeds Bill Dwyre, who has held the position for 25 years.
Harvey, 54, worked as a sports reporter, columnist, and editor for the Times from 1981 to 2004. He became senior assistant sports editor in 2000, but left the newspaper two years ago to become assistant managing editor for sports at The Sun in Baltimore.
Dwyre, meanwhile, has been named to the newly created position of executive sports editor as Harvey makes the transition to editor. He will later assume a writing position in the sports department.
Harvey is expected to rejoin the Times in early April.
