By: E&P Staff Sallie Hofmeister has been appointed business editor of the Los Angeles Times. She replaces Davan Maharaj, who was named managing editor of the paper.
Hofmeister, 50, is the first female to be named to that position, according to the paper. She is promoted from deputy business editor.
Hofmeister joined the Los Angeles Times in 1995 covering media stories. Before that, she served as an assistant business editor at The New York Times.
"We are ecstatic to have someone with Sallie's energy, creativity, and deep business experience assume the leadership of one of our premier news sections," Los Angeles Times Editor Russ Stanton told staff writer Kimi Yoshino.
Hofmeister told Yoshino that the paper needs to "own Hollywood," and plans to bridge resources between the business and calendar sections.
