By: E&P Staff The Los Angeles Times Media Group has tapped Freedom Communications executive Scott McKibben to become as its chief revenue officer. McKibben most recently was president and publisher The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo., and vice president of Freedom's central region division.

McKibben, 55, succeeds Dave Murphy, who left the paper in February.

In a message to employees reported in the Los Angeles Times, newly appointed Publisher Eddy Hartenstein wrote, "Scott has worked in California and knows our marketplace. He's lived and breathed newspapers all his life and understands the challenges and opportunities."

Hartenstein, the founder of DirecTV, was recently named publisher of the Los Angeles Times.

Los Angeles Times staff writer Martin Zimmerman noted McKibben's experience in newspapers was a major reason for his appointment. McKibben also worked as president and publisher of ANG Newspapers in Oakland, Calif., and president and publisher of the San Francisco Examiner and Independent Newspaper Group.
