By: It was over a hundred years in the making, but a new era for
Editor & Publisher arrives on Jan. 12 with the launch of the expanded monthly edition of the magazine and a redesigned Web site promising new features and hourly updates. Those changes, announced in September, make this week's issue, labeled Dec. 15, 2003, the last weekly edition of
E&P.
Editor & Publisher traces its roots to 1884, with its first weekly incarnation appearing in 1898. We go out with a bang this week, with a 94-page issue titled "The Year of the War Reporter," featuring an interview with outspoken
New York Times Baghdad correspondent John F. Burns and a text and photo review of The Year at The War, plus our annual Journalism Awards and Fellowships Directory.
As we say goodbye to the weekly version, we are excited about the changeover to our monthly cycle (see
Editor Greg Mitchell's column). It will allow us to get more hard news to you more quickly, via our very popular Web site, while offering more profiles and analysis in print, provided by the same reporters and editors who have made
E&P an award-winning publication. Among the many new print features you'll see starting next month:
* The Data Page: numbers, charts and graphs revealing industry performance and trends.
* Expanded
E&P Technical section.
* Photo of the Month (with Photo of the Week continuing on the Web).
* Editorial Cartoon of the Month.
* Expanded NewsPeople, and the return of obituaries.
* The Month in Review: a day-by-day guide to news you may have missed on the E&P Web site.
* A lively, redesigned front of the book, featuring industry profiles, news, and trend reports.
* A new column by Greg Mitchell.
* At least three full-length features every month.
With the Web makeover, it all adds up to "more, better, faster" for the new year, and a new era for the venerable
E&P. So stick around, and watch us grow.
