Hackers from the Syrian Electronic Army, which supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, broke into the Twitter account of Le Monde overnight, the newspaper confirmed on Wednesday.
Le Monde’s Twitter account, which has 3.3 million followers, was temporarily suspended after the attack, but the paper issued a tweet this morning announcing that it had regained control of its computers, adding: "We apologise for any fraudulent posts on our behalf."
