By: E&P Staff Frederic R. Lebolt, who co-created the Chicago Sun-Times Web site in 1995, on Wednesday was named vice president, new media of the Sun-Times News Group (STNG), Hollinger International Inc.'s cluster of more than 100 Chicago-area dailies and community papers.
The appointment is effective immediately.
Lebolt had most recently served as president of STNG's South Division, consisting of Fox Valley Publications and Midwest Suburban Publishing.
In this new position, Lebolt, 52, is "responsible for the development and execution of a multimedia strategy leveraging STNG's 100-plus publications and media properties across greater Chicago," the company said.
He will report directly to John Cruickshank, the cluster's chief operating officer. On an interim basis, Hollinger said, the publishers of Fox Valley and Midwest Suburban will report directly to Cruickshank.
Lebolt co-founded the
suntimes.com news web site in 1995.
"A decade ago, Fred Lebolt took the Sun-Times and many of our publications around Chicago to the forefront of online delivery of news content," Cruickshank said. "This, combined with his recent experience running many of our suburban newspapers, makes Fred uniquely qualified for this new challenge."
In addition to the Sun-Times, STNG publishes the Daily Southtown; the Naperville Sun; the Post Tribune of Northwest Indiana; the Pioneer Press and Star weekly groups; and suburban newspapers in Joliet, Aurora, Elgin and Waukegan.
