By: Jay DeFoore Online advertising growth at America's newspapers continues to outpace its print counterpart, although the overall numbers still lag far behind in total dollars.
The Tribune Co. today said interactive revenues were $16 million for the month of October, an increase of 50%, "due to strength in all categories."
Overall
publishing revenues in October were $330 million compared to last year's $329 million. Advertising revenues increased 1.4% overall to $265 million, compared with $261 million in October 2004.
In its
quarterly filing yesterday, Lee Enterprises reported a 143% increase in online advertising revenue, largely attributed to the purchase of Pulitzer's St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Lee's ad revenue was up across the board -- 73.7% overall to $226 million -- but online far exceeded other categories.
For the three-months period ended Sept. 30, online advertising revenue was $7.627 million, up from $3.136 million over the same period in 2004. On the year, online ad revenue is up 73.4% to $19.294 million, and increase from $11.125 million over the first nine months of 2004.
