LEE NAMES PUBLISHER AT WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL

By: Staff Reports Hopson Joins Executive Team At Lee Newspapers



Lee Enterprises on Wednesday appointed James W. Hopson to publisher
of the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison and vice president of the
Davenport, Iowa-based company, effective August 7.


Hopson, who was vice president of Thomson Newspapers for its Ohio
operations, succeeds Phil Blake. Blake is retiring as publisher, but
will continue as vice president of Lee to handle acquisition strategy,
group purchasing, and newsprint management at the Madison office.



Hopson also will become a member of the board of directors at Lee's
Madison Newspapers Inc., a subsidiary that publishes the State Journal
and four other Wisconsin dailies. The State Journal is Lee's largest
daily newspaper with a weekday circulation of 87,430 and a Sunday
circulation of 158,792.
