By: Lee Enterprises Inc. announced Friday that Joyce Dehli, director of editorial development, has been promoted to vice president for news.

Dehli, 47, will work with Lee's 58 daily newspapers and the company's more than 100 weekly newspapers to deliver quality journalism to their growing online and print audiences, CEO Mary Junck said in a statement.

"With the rapid growth of our online sites, our newspapers reach more people today than ever before, giving us new opportunities to meet more needs of more diverse audiences," Junck said.
Dehli succeeds David Stoeffler, who has taken a leave of absence from the company.

Dehli said her focus will be to make the company's newspapers and online sites more essential.

"Quality is the key, and that means powerful local journalism, credible and well-told, that serves the public's interests," she said.

Dehli has managed Lee's journalism training programs since April 2005. She was promoted to the corporate level in October 2004 as editorial training manager.

Previously, she was managing editor of the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison, Wis., where she earlier held a variety of editing and reporting positions.

Lee owns 52 daily newspapers and a joint interest in six others. Lee also operates associated online services and more than 300 weekly newspapers, shoppers and classified and specialty publications.
