By: E&P Staff Lee Enterprises reported that ad revenue grew 4.9% in April compared to the same period last year. The results are based on one extra Sunday this year.
On a same property basis, which excludes the impact of acquisitions and divestures made in the current or prior year, retail advertising increased 5.4%. Classified advertising rose 2.2%. Within the category, employment was up 16.5%, real estate grew 4.5%, and automotive declined 10%. National advertising was down 6.9%.
Online advertising grew 43.8%.
Circulation revenue increased 5.9%.
Total same property operating revenue increased 4.6%. Including the effect of acquisitions and divestitures, total ad revenue grew 83.5% and operating revenue increased 78.6%.
Pulitzer, which results are not affected by an extra Sunday, reported that ad revenue declined 0.7% with total revenue down 1%. In St. Louis, ad revenue decreased 1.9% and total revenue declined 2.1%.
