By: E&P Staff The Lemoore Advance, a weekly in Lemoore, Calif., has been shut down by its owner, Lee Enterprises Inc., the Central Vally Business Times reports. The Advance is the fourth Central Valley newspaper closed by Lee in the past two years.
The 121-year-old paper was one of some 300 weeklies owned by the company, which also owns the daily Hanford Sentinel. Lee continues to publish the weekly Kingsburg Recorder (circulation 3,300) and the weekly Selma Enterprise (circulation 4,700) in the Central Valley.
The Advance, with a paid circulation of about 1,500, will now be folded into the Hanford Sentinel as a twice-weekly feature called ?Focus on Lemoore.?
The Advance follows a long line of newspaper closings in the central California area. Lee Enterprises shut down its weekly Coalinga Record in April 2008 and the Avenal Progress and Twin City Times in 2007, and the Sacramento Union stopped its presses in March.
