Lehman Communications Runs ProImage NewsWay

By: E&P Staff ProImage, Princeton, N.J., completed the installation of its NewsWay browser-based production tracking and workflow solution at the Daily Times-Call, Lehman Communications' 21,361-circulation paper in Longmont, Colo.

Lehman IT Manager Suzanne Barrett said in a statement that the goal was to standardize production procedures and quality and tie together four divisions, consisting of three dailies, four weeklies, and more than 100 commercial clients. She said the goal was achieved just over a month after installation, "while significantly reducing production costs and improving print quality."

All Lehman offices are along Colorado's Front Range, where it has two print sites: Longmont, the company's headquarters, where Daily Times-Call, Daily Reporter-Herald and Colorado Hometown Newspapers are printed, and Canon City, where the Daily Record is printed.

In the "drive ... to implement CTP," Barrett said in a statement, NewsWay served as "the foundation of our end-to-end production management system, managing multiple zoning for multiple products."

NewsWay integrates the Times-Call's Tera GN3 editorial and Tark archive systems and SCS Layout 8000 and ClassPag systems. OneVision's Asura software is used to optimize and preflight PDF files.

NewsWay imports Layout 8000 files and stitches together separate bitmap or PDF advertising elements and imports the editorial content, based on layout geometry. Its edition planning includes tracking, soft proofing, e-mail conferencing, and annotation. Commercial customers may track, proof, and approve pages over the Web.

Before output, and load balancing of the two Kodak Trendsetter thermal platesetters, NewsWay Plate Wizard is used to create custom impositions or other plate configurations, allowing pages to be dragged into the appropriate place on the plate template for automatic imposition. Text burning on the plate, job scheduling, FTP transmission, plate editor, deadline monitoring, and event notification and pasteboard are also automatic NewsWay features.
