By: E&P Staff Longmont, Colo.-based Lehman Communications Corp. selected Quipp Systems to provide press conveying and mailroom bundle-distribution equipment for its new production facility, now being built in Berthoud, Colo.
Lehman Communications, publisher of the Longmont Daily Times-Call and Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald, expects to commission the new plant in spring. Lehman also publishes the Lafayette News, Louisville Times, Erie Review, and Superior Observer weeklies and numerous commercial products.
The installation will consist of three Quipp Twin-Trak conveyors designed to deliver a range of products, including quarterfolds, tabloids and broadsheets coming off the press. The bundle-distribution system will convey bundles from inserting lines to truck-loading positions.
Quipp sold six Model 501 wide stackers to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. One of Quipp's first customers, having bought several stacker models since 1984, the AJC in 2002 bought Model 400 stackers, and in 2006 and 2007 installed Model 500 stackers. The six new stackers will be installed later this year in the paper's Gwinnett County plant.
Gatehouse Media New England also recently purchased a Model 501 stacker -- its fifth Quipp stacker in four years -- along with two Quipp Viper Wrappers for The Herald News, Fall River, Mass.
Detroit Media Partnership, the Gannett-MediaNews joint operation, recently purchased three Quipp Model 500 stackers. The JOA in the past six years has purchased 18 Model 500 stackers (four are Model 500C, which include bundle-compression capability and Stream Squeeze Roller). The new stackers will be installed in the Sterling Heights, Mich., facility.
Model 500 stackers also were sold to The Victoria (Texas) Advocate, and, in Ontario, Sun Media Group's Ottawa Sun and The London Free Press, where Operations Director John Pacitto cited Quipp Service Technician Jurgen Kirschner for excellent installation and training.
