This thought may sound crazy, but the year's final week is always one of my favorites. Seriously. This philosophy might just be my personality type, but I love to use the year's last week as my running headstart to the coming one. By circumstances - vacations, businesses recuperating from the holiday window, etc. - the week feels like the days hold a few more deep breaths, adding an appreciated sense of clarity sometimes missing from the preceding 51 weeks.
If your typical week is 70% your plans, 30% responding to circumstances (fill-in your numbers here), then this is your week. Make lists, set goals, throw away long-forgotten piles in the corner of your office (or life). Create a new daily or weekly workflow, asking yourself if the appointments on your calendar make sense or are your best use of time. Dream big, challenge the comfortable, and dare to lead the change for the better. And, importantly, do so with your personal life, too. Or commit to taking a new daily walk, crossword puzzle, or maybe a nap - something else exclusively your mind and body to recharge.
