By: E&P Staff Since Friday, E&P has produced a number of stories offering background information on McCain running mate Sarah Palin, mainly from Alaska newspapers, since so little was known about her until now.
Readers have let us know what they think of all this. Here is a sampling.

I want to thank you for paying attention to Alaskans' knowledge about Gov. Palin. I'm pretty appalled that the mainstream media has been so uninterested in it.

How in the world is this woman going to raise 5 children and be vice president.. when she is having trouble raising them while being a governer of a state. She has a special needs child who is going to help him? If she was really a soccer mom she would never have considered running for Vice President with great likely hood of becoming President. As a mother of three she can't do both and obviously just being a governer has not worked out well for her children. I do not get this... Madness.

I don't think it's a coincidence that as newspapers have grown more and more liberal and less and less objective, their circulations and their incomes have dropped. Newspapers cannot be trusted any more, Greg, and there you are, encouraging them to be even more biased.
You and the newspapers need to drop your political agendas and start concentrating on good journalism. At one time, I was a newspaper editor, and there would have been no way I'd have hired you.
Stop pushing the liberal agenda, and get back to rock solid journalism.

This is excellent! Please keep up the good work. Since Alaska knows her best, they will be in the best position to confirm, or refute her statements.
Thank you.

I am a former resident of Alaska and know who Sarah Palin is. You cannot look at her as an ordinary politician or you are going to miss it, big time. She appeals to the immutable laws of human nature; when you fall in love, you ignore all the weaknesses of your partner...and Governor Palin is very easy to fall in love with.
Governor Palin is a real deal, 100% authentic reformer. She is a roll up your sleeves, act with a sense of urgency, screw your party type of politician. I cannot emphasize enough that this is TRUTH, not some artificially created image. In a time where congress has a 9% approval rating and Americans are sick of the power hungry, self-centered politicians, Sarah Palin is exactly who many people in America want running our country, regardless of what you might think of her experience.
I guess all I'm saying is don't understimate the impact of Palin, in a totally counter-intuitive sense.

Each of our would-be Commanders in Chief just made their first crucial national security decision. Barack Obama concluded that should he be unable to serve, or were to die in office, he would put the country and the US military in the hands of a six-term Senator and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a man widely respected on both sides of the aisle. McCain, who is 72 and a four time cancer survivor which makes his choice more than academic, chose a person who before her year and a half as governor of the tiny state of Alaska (pop. 650,000, about a quarter the size of Brooklyn) was mayor of a town of 7,000 people. Even more astonishing, he?d only met her once before interviewing her for the job last Thursday. This speaks volumes about McCain?s judgment and competence.
In his acceptance speech in Denver, Obama said if John McCain wants to debate who has the judgment and temperament to be Commander in Chief he would welcome that debate. Incredibly, he won it and he didn't even have to fire a shot. He just let John McCain shoot himself in the foot. Goodness, even Dick Cheney has better aim than that. This is one of the most dangerously irresponsible picks in US history.
