Listen Up: New 'E&P' Audio/Podcast On Media Coverage of 'Noncombat' Deaths in Iraq

By: E&P Staff A bombshell two-part report on the CBS Evening News this week has belatedly brought more attention to the issue. In the latest E&P audio/podcast special launched this morning, Editor Greg Mitchell chats with Online Editor about suicides among American troops in Iraq (and back at home) and other "noncombat" fatalities.

You can go to the link below to listen or download.

Mitchell was one of the few "mainstream" journalists to keep tabs on the alarming rise in these deaths since the war in Iraq began in 2003. The deaths come from accidents (often vehicle in nature), illness, friendly fire and suicides.

CBS this week revealed that thousands of veterans take their lives every year, with a disturbing surge recently in such cases among those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan -- about double the normal rate for people in their age group.

Mitchell in the audio/podcast report discusses the recent news, and traces how he has followed this issue from the start.
